Block City

Brimming with lively details of knights, sailors and peasants engaged in work and play, Wolff’s picture book version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Block City” begins with a young boy and his dog spread out on the floor with a collection of building blocks. His castles and turrets all finished, he drifts off to sleep, and the scene gradually fades into an imaginary world: his towers become the buildings of a medieval town and the quilt turns into a patchwork of surrounding fields.  the artwork glows with rich, vivid colors defined by broad, black lines. …an imaginative venture that leaves much for children to enjoy.
