Block City

Praise for Block City…

Wolff’s picture book version of the six-stanza poem “Block City” (from a Child’s Garden of Verses) begins with a young boy and his dog spread out on the floor with a collection of building blocks. His castles and turrets all finished, he drifts off to sleep, and the scene gradually fades into an imaginary world: his towers become the buildings of a medieval town and the quilt turns into a patchwork of surrounding fields. Brimming with lively details of knights, sailors and peasants engaged in work and play, the artwork glows with rich, vivid colors defined by broad, black lines. …an imaginative venture that leaves much for children to enjoy.
