HIGHLIGHTS FOUNDATION RETREAT |  April 14-17 2024

Working (Playing) Retreat

Writers and illustrators need time and space to accomplish their goals and to explore art for the pure fun of creativity.

Join me, along with fellow author/illustrator Denise Fleming and special guests Merrill Rainey and Rofa Shuhratzoda for a working retreat that centers creative play and exploration. The retreat is lightly structured and includes generative activities, optional consultations with faculty and plenty of time to to work on your own projects in the comfort and care of the Highlights Foundation retreat center.

Creativity will be front-and-center at this all-inclusive workshop at the Highlights Foundation Retreat Center in the beautiful wooded hills of the Pennsylvania Poconos.

ONLINE CLASS  | March 26 – June 4, 2024

Wildfire!

How do wildfires start? How are they stopped? And what happens to the forest animals during and after such a catastrophic event? My newest picture book takes readers aged 3-8 into the heart of a forest fire and shows how animals survive, how heroic first responders curb the flames, and how life gradually returns to the forest. Incorporating detailed content about forest fires and firefighting techniques and tools, this timely picture book is perfect for children interested in firefighting and protecting our natural lands.

Reviewers love "How to Help a Pumpkin Grow"

What — and who— does it take to help a pumpkin grow? Find out in my latest storybook, a warm, rhyming tale of gardening and unexpected friendship for readers age 4-8.

“Wolff’s illustrations include lovely, subtle details. The mouse that graces the cover is cleverly hidden throughout the story, not always obvious but always present. These illustrative grace notes make for an enjoyable reread. The rhyming text… hits just right for little listeners and for an effective read-aloud.”  — Kirkus Reviews

“The animals’ gentle expressions and the softly glowing acrylic gouache illustrations keep the story perfectly pitched for preschoolers. A good choice for fall STEAM storytimes.”   — Lucinda Whitehurst, Booklist

“Pumpkin tales abound, but Wolff’s contribution to the harvest is sweet and welcome. The gouache illustrations are vibrant and cheerful. The brief, rhyming text is ideal for sharing aloud.”  –Taylor Worley, School Library Journal

“A jaunty, rhyming text; lush, expressive, illustrations; a theme celebrating growing things and the spirit of cooperation — and the added bonus of a little mouse to find on every spread.” — Martha V. Parravano, The Horn Book
